Welcome to the area dedicated to all those involved in or affected by Food Safety issues.
Anyone who sells or processes food and is covered by the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 2006 is legally bound to make sure they carry out their operations safely and hygienically.
We have tried to represent issues, regulation and good practice in a way which will be clear and easy to follow. We have also identified areas of general health and safety which may be particularly relevant to those working in the food industry.
The Food Safety Act of 1990 provides the framework for health and safety in the industry and is supported by Regulations relating to specific areas of food safety.
The Regulations say that you must:
- identify all steps in your activities thats are critical to food safety
- ensure adequate safety controls are in place, maintained and reviewed.
The Industry Codes of Practice assist businesses in interpretation of the legislation to achieve high standards of food hygiene and safety.
